Whale Shark Googled July 7, 2006
Google Earth is an awesome tool. Sometimes the unexpected happens, like finding a whale shark just off the coast of Western Australia’s Northwest Cape, near Tantabiddi. The image appears to have been acquired in April 2005. To see for yourself check out the placemark.
Successful season draws to a close at Ningaloo
The 2006 whale shark season at Ningaloo is winding down, with the previous
week producing few sharks. July is usually the tail of the ’season’, which
has extended from early April. Many of the whale sharks visiting the region
had been seen on more than one day in 2006 - confirmed using the ECOCEAN
Whale Shark Photo-identification Library. Overall, there was great support
for the community-monitoring program from the ecotourism industry at
Ningaloo and the tourists who made the trip to Exmouth and Coral Bay to swim
with the largest fish in the seas.
